Are you a complete sewing newbie looking to make sense of how to use a sewing machine and/or wanting to have a taster session before committing yourself to a longer, more comprehensive course? Then this class is for you!
In this workshop you will learn all you need to know about using and making the most of a sewing machine.
All materials will be provided so just bring yourself along and be prepared to have a lovely time! Please note that this session does not allow for time to set up and go through student’s own machines. (If you need a class with your own sewing machine, feel free to book the relevant class listed in the Weekend Warriors) When joining this class, you will have to use our machines. The basic principles to set up and use a sewing machine are the same for all models and any differences can be easily worked out by going through your own machine’s manual once you have practiced on ours.

Outcome
In the class you will develop a sound set of sewing machine skills and knowledge. This will give you the confidence to use a sewing machine on your own and to attempt more ambitious projects, clothes making and alterations.
What do I need to bring?
Nothing! All the sewing machines and equipment are provided, as well as all the fabric and materials required for this class. Refreshments and biscuits / cookies, coffee / tea are included for all evening classes to help create a seamless atmosphere.

Our terms & conditions
Ok so we all know terms and conditions are boring to read. But at the same time none of us like surprises so please do take the time to read through these. It won’t take that long…..
1.0 Bookings:
All bookings must be paid in advance of the start date. If you wish to join a class less than 24 hours before the start please contact us first by sending an email, SMS or just call us and we will do our best to fit you in subject to availability. Your place in the class cannot be guaranteed until full payment is received.
2.0 Payments:
Please note that all bookings will be pending until funds have cleared.
We accept the following payments:
- PayPal – Via our online shopping system. You can also pay with a credit or debit card using PayPal’s secure payment system without having to open a PayPal account.
- All major credit and debit cards
- Buy now, Pay later – Humm, Pay It Later, Afterpay.
- Payments over the phone – Coming Soon..
- Bank transfers – Should you decide to send a bank transfer, please contact us and we will provide you with our bank details. Please note that it could take up to 2-3 working days for your payment to clear, unless made by PayID. We would require your payment to be received at least 7 days before your class/workshop is due.
- Cash Payments – Cash payment is NOT our preferred method but can accept it unless it is a last minute boking, provided we are not full.
Your space will be booked only upon receiving your full payment.
3.0 Refund Policy
3.1 Changes or cancellations by you:
3.1a Group lessons
If you find yourself unable to attend your class and you inform us more than 10 days in advance, we can offer a refund minus 50% of your class fee for administration. Alternatively, you can keep the payment as a credit to book against any other class / course or you can transfer to a future workshop free of charge. If cancellation is made within 10 days of your workshop, we are unable to offer a refund or move you to another class. However, you can always send a friend to take your place – just let us know of the name change.
3.1b Private lessons
All private lessons can be rescheduled if cancellation is made at least 48 hours prior to your class. If you cancel within 24 hours from your scheduled lesson, no changes or rescheduling will be offered. Please contact us to inform us for any changes you may wish to make
3.1c Non-attendance
Non-attendance of classes due to illness or for personal or professional reasons does not provide the right to refunds, extra tuition or a transfer. However, in such an event we will consider all the circumstances and take such action that we consider to be fair and reasonable.
If you are signed up on a weekly course, where all classes are connected to make the one project and you miss a class, we will try offer you a replacement group lesson, if one is available before your next lesson. This is subject to space availability in the replacement class. However, if we are not running the same lessons, you may wish to take a private lesson, in addition to your course fee to catch up with your original group course.
Due to the special nature of our workshops and the very limited enrollment, we would advise you to check your diary carefully before you sign up for a class.
3.1d Running late
If you are running late for your lesson, you must inform us by phone before your lesson is due to begin. If you are more than 30 mins late for your lesson, we reserve the right to cancel your attendance. As with the nature of a group classes, late arrivals will impact the progress of the rest in the class, so please aim to be on time.
Our studio’s doors will open for your class, 15 minutes prior to your lesson, so please don’t arrive too early as you may interrupt another class.
3.2 Minimum class numbers
We require a minimum of 6 students to be booked for any class to proceed with this class/workshop. We may choose to run a class with less than 6 bookings, but we reserve the right to reschedule undersubscribed classes.
3.3 Cancellations by us
In the unlikely event when a class/workshop must be cancelled or postponed due to unavoidable circumstances or if a class is undersubscribed, we will give you a minimum of 24 hours’ notice. You will be offered an alternative date or credit for the same amount of money or refund your payment. We will not be liable for any other costs, wasted travel or expenses that you may incur.
3.4 Class postponement
If a class is postponed for reasons which we are responsible, including tutor illness or shop closure due to other reasons out of our control, we will make every reasonable effort to reschedule the class or to add the missed hours onto the remaining course.
4.0 Requirements for participating in our classes, courses & workshops
4.1 Student ability/competency
We reserve the right to move students from a class if their sewing ability or technical sewing competence is not at the required level and would be such that it hinders the teaching and progress of other students. In such cases we would look to move the student to a class more suited to their current sewing level.
4.1 Student conduct
We require students to always conduct themselves in a reasonable and proper manner. Substantial obstruction of, or substantial improper interference with, the functions, duties or activities of any student or member of staff will result in the student being asked to leave the class. We will not tolerate any violent, indecent, disorderly, threatening, intimidating or offensive behaviour or language towards staff or other students. Any such action will result in the student being asked to leave the class. and we reserve the right to cancel attendance of further classes in extreme cases.
4.2 Student health & safety
Students are asked to wear appropriate clothing and footwear to practical classes and use sharp tools in a safe and careful manner. Students who fail to comply with health and safety rules will be unable to participate in practical classes.
